Phuket Brokers Make Waves at MYBOS

This year’s Malaysia Boat Show (MYBOS), was made up of 25 vessels in the water and 12 exibitors ashore, with a strong and highly visible contingent from Phuket’s marine industry.

Held between Apr 2-6, the second edition of MYBOS brought together yacht brands, brokers, marine businesses and industry professionals from across the region. As the afternoon sun settled over the marina on Langkawi Island, the pontoons at MYBOS quickly became a meeting point not just for yacht buyers but also curious visitors.

But among the many exhibitors on display, it was the unmistakable presence of Phuket’s leading yacht brokers that stood out on the water. Lined neatly along the berths, the Phuket exhibitors arrived in force. Familiar names from Thailand’s yachting scene – including Derani Yachts, Primus Marine, Boat Lagoon Yachting, and Simpson Marine Thailand – gave the show a distinctly regional flavour, reinforcing

Phuket’s growing reputation and support for Thailand and regional boat show. Other Thailand exhibitors were Ocean Marina Pattaya with an inside display. Håkan Lange owner and managing Director of Derani Yachts had a presence everywhere with his team. He was in the second group of three panellists offering varying observations of the industry. They had a booth exhibit in the air conditioned tent and a number of boats on the docks. Hard to miss no matter where you were.

The Phuket contingents presence was more than symbolic. It reflected the increasing connection between Thailand and Malaysia within the wider ASEAN boating and yachting market. For visitors walking the docks, the line-up of yachts and brokerage brands sent a clear message: Phuket remains a major player in the regional industry, both as a cruising destination and as a centre for yacht sales, charter, and marine services.

Conference

While the yachts drew attention on the pontoons each afternoon, the mornings belonged to ideas, discussion and industry dialogue. Running alongside the boat show was a Marine Conference, held in the grand surroundings of the St. Regis, a venue that added an unmistakable sense of occasion to the week’s proceedings. Beginning each day at 9am and continuing through to 5pm, the conference brought together speakers from across the marine and yachting sectors for a full programme of presentations, insight sessions and expert discussion.

Topics ranged across key areas of the industry, with speakers representing different sectors of the marine world and sharing perspectives on current trends, challenges and opportunities. The program also featured two panel sessions, each bringing together three speakers and a moderator, creating space for lively discussion and practical debate around the future of boating and yachting in the region.

The pairing of conference and exhibition gave MYBOS a broader dimension than a traditional boat show alone. It was not just about showcasing vessels; it was also about bringing the industry together to talk business, strategy, growth and the future of marine tourism in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Then, as the conference sessions closed for the day, the energy shifted back to the marina. From 2pm to 8pm each day, the boat show came alive as visitors stepped aboard yachts, met brokers, explored brands and took in the atmosphere of an event that is clearly finding its place on the regional calendar. The later opening hours gave the show a more relaxed, social rhythm, allowing business conversations to continue into the early evening against the backdrop of the waterfront.

For Phuket’s exhibitors, MYBOS was more than just another show appearance. It was an opportunity to strengthen regional ties, meet prospective clients, and underline the island’s importance within Asia’s growing yachting landscape.

As the second edition of MYBOS came to a close, one thing was evident: Phuket did not just attend the show – it made its presence felt. The range of brands exibited can be accessed via this link: https://www.malaysiainternationalboatshow.com/pages/boats.php
