Bluegame Premieres Foil-Assisted Power Catamaran BGF45 at Cannes Yachting Festival

Bluegame unveiled its first foil-assisted power catamaran, the BGF45, at the Cannes Yachting Festival (9–14 September 2025). This world premiere introduced America’s Cup–inspired technology to recreational yachting, marking a subtle yet meaningful advance in sustainable performance on the water.

The BGF45 integrates a pair of submerged foils between its twin GRP hulls, an evolution of the hydrogen-powered BGH chase boat developed for the 37th America’s Cup. Partially lifting the vessel at speed, the foils reduce drag by over 40%, translating into fuel savings of up to 30% and a quieter, smoother ride even when cruising above 30 knots.

Designed by Luca Santella in collaboration with Zuccon International Project, the BGF45 spans 14.15 metres in length with a 6.10-metre beam. A carefully sculpted deck plan accommodates up to six guests across three ensuite cabins, while the open-plan saloon features a galley equipped for casual dining. Large hull windows underscore Bluegame’s emphasis on natural light and connection to the sea.

“The BGF45 is our statement of intent,” explained Bluegame CEO Lorenzo Argento during the festival press briefing. “We believe that foil technology, when applied thoughtfully, can bring genuine benefits to owners—improved economy, reduced wake and greater onboard comfort—without compromising everyday usability.” A wide aft cockpit opens to a beach club platform, offering direct water access for swimming or watersports, while the flybridge and foredeck sunpads provide relaxed vantage points for sunset gatherings.

Power is delivered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 800 drives, chosen for their compact installation and responsiveness. Integrated navigation and propulsion systems from Volvo Penta, Garmin, and Siemens ensure intuitive operation underway and at the dock.

As the festival drew to a close, industry observers commented that the BGF45 may signal a broader shift toward environmentally mindful powerboats. By applying racing-grade engineering to everyday charter and private yachts, Bluegame has quietly set a new benchmark for efficiency and liveability in the 40-foot segment.
